Princess Beatrice's surprise wedding ditched traditional grand royal weddings sequin formal dresses
for a private ceremony in Windsor, showing us that love can be
celebrated no matter the size of the crowd. Princess Beatrice opted for a
modest ceremony, making a statement in a vintage wedding dress borrowed
from the Queen.
Beatrice decided to go ahead and hold an intimate wedding at All
Saints Chapel, Windsor, with her close family and fewer than 20 guests
in attendance. According to sources, there was a "secret garden" theme
and the ceremony was followed by an intimate reception. Close friends
gather to celebrate the newlyweds in a beautifully decorated marquee in
the private garden. Guests reportedly stayed in luxury tents at the
estate, demonstrating an innovative way of accommodating the constraints
of the wedding.
To the surprise of all of us, Beatrice took the borrowed thing to the
next level, wearing a special gown by her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth
II. Norman Hartnell's stunning design is a vintage dress worn by the
Queen at an event in 1962. The dress was reworked to fit Princess
Beatrice, with designers adding organza sleeves and revamping the
voluminous skirt for the occasion.
Beautiful ivory dress in Peau De Soie taffeta featuring a square neck,
rhinestone embellishments, geometric plaid bodice and ivory duchesse
satin. She paired the vintage-inspired piece with another borrowed
piece, a diamond tassel tiara. Originally designed in 1919, the tiara
was worn by the Queen at her own wedding in 1947. Incorporating
sentimental elements of family, Princess Beatrice's tiara was a
beautiful ode to her loved ones and added a sweet personal touch to an
intimate wedding.
Princess Beatrice graced her understated nuptials with a selection of
fresh flowers and an ornate floral archway that wraps around the church
doors. Ivory roses, pink hydrangeas, jasmine and a variety of greenery
from the park adorned the arch as a highlight of her ceremony. She also
included sprigs of myrtle in her bouquets, a royal tradition that has
become a symbol of hope and love for generations.
Princess Beatrice's selection of vintage gowns shows her support and
respect for local designers, and is an example of how Bride's to be is
finding creative ways to adapt to the current changes in weddings due to
climate change.
